PALEA holds "Justice Run for PAL Workers"

MANILA, Oct. 17 — The members of the Philippine Airlines Employees Association (PALEA) held a "Justice Run for PAL Workers" Monday morning along the stretch of Padre Faura Street in Ermita, Manila.

Accompanied by "running priest" Fr. Robert Reyes, the PALEA members held the "Justice Run" up to the vicinity of the front gate of the Supreme Court (SC) in time for its flag-raising ceremony.

The runners said that it was a show of support to the members of the Flight Attendants and Stewards Association of the Philippines (FASAP) after the SC en banc recalled the decision of the SC Second Division that declared as illegal the retrenchment of some 1,400 employees of PAL in 1998.

The action of PALEA, Freedom from Debt Coalition (FDC) and Partido ng mga Manggagawa sa Transportasyon (PMT) in front of the SC lasted for 30 minutes. From there, they continued to run until they reached the gate of the Court of Appeals (CA).

They also urged the appellate court justices to be fair in the decision they will render in connection with the petition they filed before the CA.

In their petition, the PALEA questioned the ruling of the Office of the President and the Department of Labor and Employment in favor of the "outsourcing plan" of national flag-carrier PAL. (PNA)
