Iloilo gov calls for emergency meeting due to TD 'Ramon'

ILOILO CITY, Oct. 12 — Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor, chair of the Iloilo Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PRRMC), called for an emergency meeting Wednesday morning in order to assess the resource capabilities of the members in preparation for Tropical Depression "Ramon" forecasted to be around the vicinity of northern Iloilo province by 5 Wednesday afternoon.

The rainfall, spawned by "Ramon" as of 11 this morning, according to Jerry V. Bionat, Iloilo PDRRMC executive officer, has already started to affect the towns of Ajuy with an estimated rainfall amount of 26.32 mm, Estancia with 105.75 mm, and Guimbal with 12.97 mm. The estimated rainfall amount is based on the PAGASA Weather Monitoring.

Bionat said that other towns in Iloilo province affected by the moderate rainfall are Balasan and Sara that are experiencing water rise on the roadsides from 6 to 10 inches high.

Bionat said classes in kinder and elementary schools in the province have been automatically suspended this morning due to Typhoon Signal No. 1.

He said that work at the Iloilo provincial government is not suspended. (PNA)
