4 houses destroyed by flood in Estancia, Iloilo

ILOILO CITY, Oct. 12 – Four houses were destroyed or affected by the flood due to the heavy rainfall brought about by tropical depression "Ramon" in Estancia, Iloilo province.

Iloilo Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) executive officer Jerry V. Bionat, however, said the latest weather bulletin of the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) showed that the TD Ramon, which was expected to be in the vicinity of northern Iloilo province by 5 p.m. Wednesday, is actually already leaving Panay island with its center spotted 100 kilometers northwest of Roxas City at 1 p.m. today.

Bionat said that because of this development, he is happy that TD Ramon has not caused so much havoc as has been expected except the rise of water level on the roadsides and the damage on four houses in Estancia.

He said that for the four houses damaged or affected by the flood these are situated in Barangay Kanuan where there is a creek that had been encroached by a subdivision developer. The subdivision has encroached almost one half of the creek embankment and is now a bottleneck to the water flow, causing flood.

Even if TD Ramon is now leaving Panay island, the IPRRMC and the Office of Civil Defense-Regional DRRMC continue to monitor the situation in Panay island. (PNA)
