De Lima: Arroyo couple to be placed under WLO

MANILA, Oct. 3 — Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila De Lima confirmed on Monday that the name of former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will remain in the DOJ's Watch List Order (WLO).

De Lima said that even the name of former First Gentleman Atty. Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo will also be placed under the WLO.

The name of the former First Gentleman was earlier dropped from the WLO after the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, chaired by Senator Teofisto Guingona III, withdrew its formal request with the DOJ for such an WLO against Atty. Arroyo due to health reasons as he is suffering from "aortic aneurism."

The placing of the names of Atty. Arroyo and Mrs. Arroyo under the WLO was prompted by the positive identification of the former First Couple by a new witness in connection with their alleged direct involvement in the electoral fraud during the 2007 senatorial elections.

Former Maguindanao provincial administrator Norie Unas, who served under the administration of former Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan Sr., made the revelation in a press conference at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday.

Unas claimed it was the Arroyo couple who personally gave him direct instructions to manipulate the results of the 2007 senatorial elections in favor of "Team Unity" and secure their "sure win" in Maguindanao. (PNA)
