MANILA, Sept. 6 — The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) will hold market matching activities nationwide to help facilitate producer-buyer partnerships that will address supply and demand concerns on local livestock-based commodities.
For each event, BAI Director Dr. Efren Nuestro said the agency plans promoting at least one such commodity and gather its producers and potential buyers.
"We want to promote the local livestock industry," he said.
Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) reported the livestock sub-sector accounted for 15.27 percent of total Philippine agricultural production in the first semester of 2011.
For the same reference period, BAS also said gross value of livestock production nationwide hit PhP103.1 billion at current prices.
Nuestro said BAI will conduct monthly market matching in Metro Manila as stakeholders concerned are clamoring for this.
Such clamor followed BAI's maiden market matching -domestic meat and products promotion activity which the agency held last month at its central office in Metro Manila.
"Stakeholder response to that activity was very positive," he reported.
He said BAI will eventually conduct market matching and promotion activities in other parts of Luzon as well as in the Visayas and Mindanao.
Nuestro reported BAI's first market matching and promotion activity on Aug. 26 this year enabled participants to learn alternative marketing strategies from suppliers practicing these.
Such activity also opened up the opportunity for producers and suppliers there to learn about and help meet food needs of several institutional buyers at the event, he added. (PNA)
