ILOILO CITY, July 20 – A four-million-peso fund needed for the conduct of a parcellary survey in anticipation of the implementation of the proposed Iloilo Circumferential Road (C-1) was already released by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) taken from its fund for the current year.
Further, the procurement process and its related activities are expected to be completed before the end of the year, according to the office of DPWH regional director Evelyn Barroso.
She said the circumferential road, which was conceptualized to address the demand of the growing traffic in Metro Iloilo, is one of the high impact projects being pursued by Ilonggo Senator Franklin Drilon in support of the development agenda of President Benigno S. Aquino III and the project to decongest traffic of DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson.
The project includes the full acquisition of the 40-meter road-right-of-way requirements, construction of a two-lane paved road covering a total length of 14.18 kilometers and construction of five concrete bridges with the total length of 392 lineal meters.
It will cover 8.28 kilometers in Iloilo City, 2.7 kilometers in Pavia, and 3.2 km in Oton.
The entire project is estimated to cost P1.7 billion and the DPWH has divided the project into five sections.
The initial amount of P240 million for the construction of the priority section of the circumferential road was already requested.
Apart from the C-1 project, Drilon also committed P200 million from his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) in 2012 for the widening of the Jaro-Leganes Road, from an existing two-lane to four lanes to start from the Montinola Bridge in Jaro to the town plaza of Leganes, to address the worsening traffic condition along the Jaro-Leganes Road
This project will complement the initial development being initiated by Iloilo City Lone District Rep. Jerry P. Treñas who also allotted P20 million for the widening of several critical bottlenecks along the Jaro-Buntatala Section of the national road.
The DPWH also committed to fund the remaining P60 million to fully complete the road widening project estimated to cost P281 million.
Also included in the development initiatives of Sen. Drilon is the improvement of road along Jalandoni Bridge to Diversion Road, including the Construction of Dungon Bridge worth P174 million.
The project also includes improvement of 0.89 kilometers of roads starting from Jalandoni Bridge, corner Rizal Street to Diversion Road, intersecting with Hechanova Street.
Just recently, Drilon met with Barroso here to discuss the updates of some of his high impact projects which are expected to boost the socio-economic activities in Iloilo. (PNA)
