Motocross: Filipino riders led by Aguilar shine in Palawan

MANILA, July 11 — The country's top motocross riders starred in the JYL-Enersel National Invitational Motocross Championship at Brooke’s Point, Palawan during the weekend.
Glenn Aguilar, once named Asian Rider of the Year, continued to dominate and lead in the Pro Open category going to the 7th Leg of the motocross series.
Bornok Mangosong almost grabbed the title from Aguilar when he went ahead of the latter at the start of the race.
In the last two laps, Mangosong’s engine sputtered and Aguilar caught up with him. Not to be outdone, Mangosong showcased a freestyle 60-foot jump that made Aguilar second again.
In the last lap, Aguilar proved what he is made of when his jump landed him on the number one spot in the Pro Open category, leaving Mangosong at fourth place.
Kimboy Pineda and Ambo Yapparcon finished second and third in the said category, while Golden Wheel awardee Donark Yuzon finished sixth.
SEL-J Sports president Jay Lacnit dominated the Executive C category while Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Buboy Fernandez finished after him.
Juancho Banaag was third. Fernandez and Lacnit were also neck-to-neck at the Executive A race, where they finished third and fourth, respectively. Fernandez was seventh in the Beginner Open Prod category while Lacnit was ninth.
In the Executive B category, Fernandez was third and Lacnit was fifth. The top winners were Jeffrey Rellosa, John Manuel Jaranilla and Jodel Bonto (Beginner Open Prod); Atong Mangosong, JB Bacabac and Arniel Lacnit (Novice Open Prod.); Atong Mangosong, Dexter Bacabac and JB Bacabac (Intermediate); Pia Gabriel, Marriane Yapparcon and Mia Villalon (Ladies);
Nino Acosta, Leonilo Lunaspe and Arnold Edmilao (Underbone); BJ Pepito, Ompong Gabriel and Mia Villalon (50CC); BJ Pepito, Ompong Gabriel and Marriane Yapparcon (65CC); Ompong Gabriel, McLean Aguilar and Pia Gabriel (85CC);
Allen Mercado, Forteviliar Ebit and Mandy Masculino (Pantra); Gabriel Alba, John Manuel Jaranilla and Michael Jay Pascual (Pit Bike); Arnold Patindol, Michael Jay Pascual and Arvin Borlagatan (Local Open Enduro); Dexter Bacabac, Hermis Bantoc and Buboy Fernandez (Executive A); and Hermis Bantoc, Arvin Santos and Buboy Fernandez (Executive B).
Brooke’s Point Mayor Narciso ‘Boyet’ Leoncio officially awarded the key of sports-tourism to Lacnit during the kick-off race as more than 20,000 viewers trooped to Barangay Calasiguin for the 62nd celebration of the foundation of Brooke’s Point and the 6th Pista y ang Kaniyog’n ng Palawan.
Brooke’s Point is the growth center of Southern Palawan, a first class municipality that advocates motocross as a sport.
Brooke’s Point, home of the Pearl of Allah, the world’s biggest pearl, is the motocross capital of Southern Palawan.
