PNP gears up for 113th Independence Day celebration

MANILA, May 27 – The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday it is intensifying its security preparations weeks before the 113th anniversary of the Philippine Independence on June 12, 2011, which will be highlighted by various programs and activities nationwide.
PNP chief Director General Raul M. Bacalzo has directed all regional directors, provincial directors, chiefs of police to intensify their conduct of police visibility, checkpoint operations, mobile and foot patrol in accordance with the Police Integrated Patrol System (PIPS).
It can be recalled that the conduct of the Police Integrated Patrol System contributed to the decline of crimes by double-digits in 2010 and during the first quarter of 2011.
All Police Regional Offices (PROs) are also required to deploy Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) contingent in all places where Independence Day programs and activities will be held.
On May 28, 2011, the Philippine National Flag Day or Araw ng Watawat will serve as the kick-off ceremony leading to the actual celebration of the Philippine Independence on June 12, which will be graced by President Benigno S. Aquino III at the Rizal National Monument, Rizal Park, Manila.
Prominent guests and personalities are also invited to grace the simultaneous celebration of the Independence Day in historical places such as the Gen. Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite; Barasoain Church, Malolos City, Bulacan; Mausoleo de los Veteranos dela Revolucion, Manila North Cemetery; Gat Andres Bonifacio Monument, Caloocan City; Pinaglaban Memorial Shrine in San Juan City; and the Pamintuan Mansion in Angeles City.
Similar programs and activities will be held also in cities and municipalities all over the country which will be participated in by local government units (LGUs) and local police units in support of the commemoration of Philippine Independence.
A Job and Livelihood fair will also be held nationwide to give Filipino workers a chance to land good-paying jobs.
The PNP will also showcase its frontline services, accomplishments, plans and programs during the Civic Military Parade on June 12 at the Quirino Grandstand, Manila, as well as the PNP Booth for the trade fair and exhibits.
The PNP will also provide bands and ceremonial elements at the Pamintuan Mansion in Angeles City and at the Pinaglabana Shrine in San Juan City.
Police personnel will be deployed to direct traffic and to assist the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in assisting those who will join the celebrations and to direct commuters to detour routes to avoid traffic congestion during the celebration. (PNA) scs/JCA
