MANILA, April 13 — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Wednesday welcomed President Benigno S. Aquino’s issuance of Administrative Order No. 9, providing housing projects for soldiers and policemen.
For the AFP soldiers, this is a fulfillment of a commitment made by the President and Commander-in-Chief Aquino during the celebration of the 25th EDSA Revolution, when he assured members of the AFP and PNP that he will provide housing units for them within 30 years of amortization.
This is indeed a very significant development that it boosts the morale of our fighting troops, particularly those in the frontlines.
Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, J1 AFP BGen Honorato S De los Reyes, who is also the morale and welfare officer of the AFP, said “It is very encouraging for the troops to know that the President is giving utmost importance to the ordinary soldiers who, while putting their lives at risk to uphold laws and order in the country, are doing their best to accomplish their given tasks.”
The AFP made preliminary inspections and surveyed the proposed areas in close coordination and consultation with the National Housing Authority (NHA) for this housing project.
Areas identified as initial proposed sites include Bocaue and San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan, Rodriguez in Rizal, Trece Martires and Gen. Trias, Cavite, and Calamba and Binan, Laguna.
“The Armed Forces of the Philippines is now facing formidable challenges, but in light of all these developments, through the support and encouragement of the government, we shall remain unwavering in our commitment to protect the best interest of the Filipinos,” AFP Chief of Staff General Eduardo Oban Jr. said.
