MANILA, April 12 — In line with the government's program for the youth, some 50 trainees have been assigned to various bureaus of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said the 2011 government internship program is one of the major components of the Aquino administration’s “Kabataang Pinoy Program” where the youth is given the chance to experience the role of being public servants.

The trainees will work with the department for two months. They will receive a stipend not more than 75 percent of the minimum wage.

Singson said he hopes the trainees will develop a public service focused mindset and help the agency in the transformation program designed to eliminate the problem of negative perception –the stigma as one of the most corrupt government agencies.

Payments for the wages will be charged to available funds of the department.

The National Youth Commission, the policy-making coordinating body of all youth-related institutions, programs and activities of the government, seeks continued support to the program by national government agencies not only during summer period. (PNA)
