Bishops hit TV ad of popular food chain

MANILA, April 11 — Bishops have scored a TV advertisement of a popular food chain that shows a girl wooing a boy, saying this might send a wrong message to its viewers.

Caloocan bishop Deogracia Iniguez said the ad could be misinterpreted by young viewers.

Iniguez, chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Public Affairs of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, said the TV commercial is outright "wrong."

"Yun ang waring dating sa mga tao ay masasabi nating hindi tama ang mga advertisement na yon," the bishop said.

In the said ad, the girl asks the boy “pwede ba kitang maging boyfriend?”.

The girl then tells the boy “French fries lang naman ang gusto ko eh.”

For his part, Father Melvin Castro, executive secretary CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Family and Life, said the TV ad is "cheap" and "shallow."

"Napakababaw.

He added that the fast food chain should replaced the commercial before it influences its young audience.

Nakakalungkot," he said. (PNA)

there was a time when mcdonalds focused on pushing hamburgers and french fries on kids so they would get their parents to buy them. they were very effective at that.

now they are going after little boys to buy their girlfriends a hamburger, fries, and a shake. getting into their allowances.

all the fuss is about someone wanting kids to have time to be kids. thank you to the bishops that want kids to play. next thing you know the bishops will want to bring recess back.
