2 cop escorts of La Union mayor hurt in bomb blast

CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union, March 28 — Police are conducting an in-depth investigation into the explosion that hurt two policemen belonging to the convoy of the town mayor of Naguilian last Saturday night in Barangay Tuddingan, Naguilian.

La Union police director Senior Superintendent Ramon Purugganan on Monday said the policemen were in a convoy of Mayor Reynaldo Flores when the explosion occurred while they were negotiating a barangay road.

Purruganan identified the wounded policemen as PO2 Joel Ago and PO1 Ramil Castro, both members of the Naguilian police station and are police escorts of Mayor Flores.

Mayor Flores and his driver, identified as PO3 M Jopises Rivera, who were in another car, were unhurt.

Initial investigation showed that the blast occurred at about 6:00 p.m. when the convoy was moving along the road in Barangay Tuddingan on its way to town proper.

Purugganan also disclosed that the two injured policemen were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. They are now out of danger.

Police recovered debris of improvised explosive from the crime scene. (PNA)
