MANILA, March 14 – Following the unprecedented 8.9- magnitude quake that shook Japan Friday afternoon, causing extensive damages to lives and properties, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) launched Monday a fund donation campaign through short message system (SMS) in support of the Japanese Red Cross Society’s response to the emergency situation.

JRCS is an active supporter of PRC in times of disasters and other emergencies. It is also a partner in PRC's several programs, including the Primary Health Care Project.

“It’s our turn to give back,” PRC Chairman Richard J. Gordon said, adding, “Being a third world country shouldn’t hinder us from helping our neighboring country, which is in dire need of assistance.”

Gordon enjoins every Filipino to do his share and help the people of Japan.

PRC is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement that is now working together to help alleviate the plight of the Japanese quake victims.
