MANILA, March 8 – Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista Tuesday ordered the city’s Department of Building Official (DBO) to include government-owned facilities in complying with the new green building ordinance.

Bautista said these include school buildings, health centers, hospitals and office buildings.

QC-DBO chief Isagani Versoza Jr. said that the green building infrastructure ordinance will be implemented next month and that including government facilities in the measure “will give more teeth to its implementation."

He said that it is easy for building contractors to comply with the ordinance as sufficient and efficient lighting and water fixtures that include waste management plan and sewerage treatment plant are required under the measure.

Bautista also directed Engineering Department Head Joselito Cabungcal to secure the necessary building permits and observe the green building standard in all Quezon City infrastructure projects.

The green building standard is provided for under the newly passed City Council’s Green Building Infrastructure Ordinance, which mandates the use of eco-friendly technology and systems in the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of building, including retrofitting building projects in the city.
