LAOAG CITY, Feb. 24 — The Residential Free Patents program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) benefited 22 families from Paoay town in Ilocos Norte.

The free patent was distributed to these families in a ceremony at the Sangguniang Bayan session hall in Paoay, attended by Mayor Bonifacio Clemente Jr., Vice Mayor Eileen Guerrero and Regional Director Samuel Penafiel and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Juan de los Reyes.

The DENR said a free patent is an instrument by which public lands can be acquired by means of an administrative confirmation of imperfect title.

It is intended to legalize the land rights of Filipinos who are found to be occupying and cultivating such lands for at least 10 years.

At the same time, a free patent on residential land covers all lands that are zoned as residential areas, including town sites as defined under the Public Land Act.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude and joy in receiving their residential land titles especially since they have been occupying the lands for more than 30 years and this is now a dream come true.

Mayor Clemente encouraged his constituents who wish to apply for residential free patent to prepare their needed documents in order to realize their dreams of possessing their residential lands. (PNA)
