Luistro is keynote speaker at Surigao del Norte Education Summit on Feb. 15

SURIGAO CITY, Feb. 13 – Department of Education Secretary Armin Luistro will be the keynote speaker in the 2011 Surigao del Norte Education Summit which will be held at Surigao del Norte Provincial Convention Center in this city on February 15.

Surigao del Norte Governor Sol F. Matugas said Secretary Luistro will also be the guest at the launching of the Provincial Culture and Arts Week and the unveiling of the Provincial Cultural Center for Children at the Provincial Amphitheater here.

With its theme, “Building a new Surigao through Quality Basic Education,” this year’s Education Summit will also be highlighted by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for PROJECT: BEST or Barangay Education Strategic Team of Surigao del Norte.

Resolutions of support for the province’ education sector development program from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, League of Municipal Mayors of the Philippines (LMMP), Association of Barangay Captains and Parents-Teachers Association will also be presented and discussed during the summit.

Matugas said that the Essential Health Care Program (EHCP) for Schools by the German International Cooperation (GIZ) in cooperation with the Philippine government will also be launched together with the turnover of some equipment.

The German government project beneficiaries are the four school divisions of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands provinces, namely: Surigao City Schools Division, Siargao Island Schools Division, Surigao del Norte Schools Division, and the Dinagat Islands Schools Division.

According to Governor Matugas, no less than Holger Zahn, project manager of the GIZ, will be attending the launching and the turnover ceremonies.

To give messages during the summit are Rep. Guillermo A. Romarate and Rep. Francisco T. Matugas of the Second and First Congressional Districts of Surigao del Norte, respectively. (PNA)
