MANILA, Feb. 9 -– The Philippine National Police (PNP) declared on Wednesday that former Defense Secretary Angelo T. Reyes committed suicide Tuesday morning at the Loyola Memorial Park (LMP) in Marikina City.

PNP-National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Chief Supt. Nicanor Bartolome said they found no sign of foul play as he cited the wish of the grieving family for privacy.

Bartolome also said the Reyes death is a "closed case." "Based on statements we got from witnesses, only one shot was fired. And there was no indication of foul play. So, our investigators concluded [Reyes'] death was self-inflicted," he said.

He also said the police will respect the wishes of Reyes' family not to conduct an autopsy or a paraffin test on the remains of the former Defense chief. (PNA)
