SINAI, Egypt, Feb. 7 — Egypt will suspend gas export to Jordan and Syria for a week, until the maintenance of the natural gas pipeline that exploded on Saturday finishes, said an official of the Egyptian Company for Natural Gas.

He added investigations are under way to probe the cause of the explosion.

A natural gas pipeline exploded on Saturday in El Arish in Egypt's North Sinai, after mass protests broke out in the country more than a week ago.

The blast occurred at around 7 a.m. (0500 GMT) on Saturday at a gas terminal, three kilometers from the Arish airport, North Sinai governor Abdel Wahab Mabrouk told Xinhua. (PNA/Xinhua)
