London stock market closes higher

LONDON, Feb. 3 — The London stock market closed higher on Wednesday with the leading FTSE 100 index up by 42.25 points, or 0.71 percent, to 6,000.07 points.

Shares in Imperial Tobacco Group closed 5.91 percent higher, the biggest winner on Wednesday after it said its sales had risen by 5 percent in the last three months of 2010.

Automobile parts maker GKN's shares fell 4.91 percent, the biggest loser on FTSE 100. (PNA/Xinhua)
