MANILA, Jan. 30 — Authorities are set to file charges against the owners and contractors of Eton Tower Condominium in connection with the death of at least 10 construction workers in Makati City last Thursday.

According to Senior Supt. Froilan Bonifacio, Makati police chief, they will file charges of negligence resulting to multiple homicide against the management and the safety engineers of the under-construction condominium tower once they have completed their investigation.

“We will charge those people responsible in the incident but we cannot say who they are until we have filed the charges in court, maybe this coming week,” Bonifacio said.

The police chief said he had talked with the safety engineer of the project and was told that he was then making the rounds as it was lunch time, but he did not notice the gondola lift was already overloaded.

Bonifacio said they were supposed to inspect the condominium tower last Friday but it was closed so they deferred the inspection for this week.

Meanwhile, Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. said he has yet to read the full report of the engineering department though he disclosed that the legal part of the matter has to undergo a process. (PNA) scs/CLTC
