BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 13 — City Mayor Mauricio Domogan Thursday said thousands of expected spectators of the February Baguio Flower Festival (BFF) will witness the best-ever edition of the yearly event after all schools signified their all-out participation.

In a press conference, he said that the festival's main features consisting of the street dancing and float parade on February 25 and 26 will showcase various innovations.

Last week, many parents of elementary and high school students threatened non-participation because they were not able to receive their prizes last year.

"I was not yet the mayor then. I gave P1 million from by congressional funds for the event. The amount was spent for the festival. I just came to know of the issue of non-delivery of prices when I became the mayor of the city. So I have to source out the needed funds from the special education fund of the city amounting to P500,000 and all the winners last year have received their prices," he explained.

For the last 14 years, the participation of some 5,000 students here was indispensable for the event known as "Panagbenga" because they are the ones donned with flower costumes during parades and field demonstrations.

"City supervisor Ellen Donato has already confirmed the schools participation. Hence, at this time we are in full preparations for the biggest tourism event in our city year after year," Domogan said.

He appealed to all tourism-oriented establishments and the general public to help in the success of the event which had brought to the city an average of more than 500,000 visitors in just one month. (PNA)
