Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista (center) inspects the newly-opened 3-hectare QC engineered sanitary landfill in Payatas to address the cityís garbage problem. Last December 31, the city government officially shut down the Payatas dumpsite after more than three decades that it has been utilized as the cityís waste disposal facility. To date, the final footprint for the conversion and rehabilitation of the old Payatas dumpsite is almost 90% complete with the city government complying with all the requirements and environmental regulations of operations provided under Republic Act 9003, or the Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
