KALIBO, Aklan, Jan. 4 – The local government of Kalibo is planning to put CCTV (close circuit television) cameras in the major thoroughfares of this town.

Kalibo mayor William Lachica said that the council is currently studying the proposal and that many private firms have already expressed interest to the plan.

"The plan of putting up CCTV cameras might be funded by 2012 and will be implemented immediately when the funding is available," Lachica said.

Among the public areas identified where the CCTV cameras will be installed are the Kalibo Public Market, crossing Banga-New Washington at the Rotunda here, the town plaza, the municipal hall, Kalibo-Numancia Bridge and Roxas Avenue.

"Through this, we could be able to minimize both the traffic and criminal incidents in this town," he said.

The Kalibo police and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has also earlier expressed support to this plan. (PNA)
