(Metro News) Navotas gears up for 105th founding anniversary

MANILA, Jan. 3 — The Navotas local government is now gearing up for its 105th founding anniversary this coming January 16.

Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco said that the Navotas Day Celebration Committee has lined up a weeklong festivities, which will begin on January 9 up to 16 and will be highlighted by the traditional Grand Parade.

He added that this year's anniversary celebration, also known as Pangisdaan Festival, has a theme of "Navotas, Itaas ang Antas ng Buhay Navoteño.”

“I strongly believe that our city can achieve full potential for growth and development if we continue to develop and enhance the Navotas’ greatest asset –- its people; the Navoteños,” Tiangco stated.

Navotas used to be part of Malabon until it was declared separate town in 1906.

Today Navotas is one of the 16 Cities comprising the National Capital Region (NCR), has 14 barangays with a population of 265,000.

Navotas has received numerous awards and citations, making it one of the most competitive and productive local government units in the country.

It also won the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency's Outstanding LGU Citation in Fight Against Illegal Drugs for 2010, the Cleanest and Greenest Municipality Award in NCR in 2001, 2003, 2004, Best Peace and Order Council for the three straight years (2003, 2004, 2005), Best Municipal Jail 2001, 2002, Best Municipal Police Station 2001, 2002, Best Anti-Drug Abuse Council in 2003, Outstanding LGU for Literacy Program in 2002 and Highest Apprehension in Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela area for Drug related cases.
