Ormoc SP okays appropriation ordinances

ORMOC CITY, Dec. 18 — The City Council passed three appropriation ordinances totaling P44.6 million to finance the local government’s various ongoing projects. The amount will be distributed among the City Engineering Office (CEO), Ormoc Waterworks and Sewerage Administration (Orwasa) and General Services Department (GSD).

The CEO got the biggest allocation of P24.5 million. Some P6.96 million will be used to finance phase 2 of the improvement of three market buildings. Building 4, which will be converted into a tricycle terminal with stalls at the sides, got P2,365,000. The fish section was budgeted with P1,161,000 for flooring, canal, metal plastic roof and tiles for the 200 stalls.

The burned Bldg. 3, which will accommodate sidewalk vendors selling native handicraft items, gets P3,360,000 and another P75,000 for the installation of roll-up doors.

City Administrator Dr. Dennis Capuyan said the bidding for these projects was scheduled on Dec. 21.

Some P11.13 million were programmed for the upgrading of road networks, including road concreting projects in barangays Luna, Cabingtan, Domonar, Mabini, Quezon Jr., Simangan (near Eaglestar office) and Narra St., the newly opened access to the City Hall from E. Conejos St., Cogon and a road opening in Doña Feliza Mejia Subdivision at the end of Anubing St., Purok 2 to connect with Purok 4.

Another P1,369,000 were allotted for drainage improvement outside Land Transportation Office in Anubing St., government center and to cover the newly widened drainage in Apitong St., Purok Ilang-ilang, Punta. Still another P5.039 million will be used to construct a new district building in Mejia.

On the other hand, the GSD got P8.1 million allocation, P5 million of which will be used to install pre-cast gutter, bricks and canal accessories in Narra St. (Cogon), Valle St. (Purok 3 in Mejia) and at the reclamation parking area in Alegria. Bricks and stoppers will also be installed at the sides of the New City Hall within the compound.

Some P2 million were earmarked for streetlights along the Ormoc-Merida highway (Owak-Coob), Tambulilid-Coob road and Juaton. Another P500,000 will be used to procure 27 hand-held and seven base radios to be distributed to Ormoc Police Office and the three precincts as well as the two fire stations.

Orwasa is allocated P12 million, P10 million of which will be utilized for the laying of distribution lines in 14 barangays including Liloan (sitio Talong), Naungan, Sumangga, Hugpa,. Quezon Jr., San Antonio (urban poor), Simangan (Sunshine urban poor behind Eaglestar), Salvacion, Dayhagan, etc.

The rest of the amount, or P2 million, will be used to construct a spillway and riprap at the roadside going to Ahag treatment pond to prevent erosion. The appropriations will be taken from the unappropriated surplus for end-year 2009. (PNA) RMA/FNC/rsm
