Pangasinan governor hails role of teachers in molding youth's mind

LINGAYEN, Dec. 17 – Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. has expressed full support to the National Organization of Professional Teachers Inc. (NOPTI), calling on their members to continue providing a brighter future for the younger generation.

In the 10th Annual Convention of NOPTI held recently at Sison Auditorium here, Espino — who was the guest of honor and speaker — said that "a solid, basic elementary education will most certainly equip the child with the necessary knowledge, values and skills that he can summon as an adult in dealing with the rigors of this complex and highly competitive global society."

This, he added, propelled him to place educational development among the top priorities of his administration as manifested by the various programs that were initiated during his first term in office.

On top of the regular school board fund, a sizable portion of provincial funds has been set aside mainly by the province for the construction, upgrading, and reordering of the various school buildings and other essential facilities needed.

According to the governor, the province has constructed or rehabilitated 220 school buildings with 293 classrooms since July 2007 and is set to help repair 279 more classrooms located in calamity stricken areas in the coming days.

During the first term of the Espino administration, the provincial government bankrolled the production of Teacher Guidebooks for elementary as well as high school classes in Mathematics, Science and English.

This was undertaken purposely to improve the quality of instructions and to provide uniform lessons for the most basic subjects in all public elementary and high schools across the entire province from the urban centers down to the remotest barangays.

At the same time, he urged the professional teachers to use the inputs in their national gathering to address various serious and growing concerns besetting the education sector and likewise come up with a more effective program that will earn positive results in the future. (PNA)
