BIR wants students, academe partners in tax campaign

ILOILO CITY, Dec 17 -– The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) here stressed that students and the academe are potent partners in their tax campaign.

BIR Revenue Region No. 11 Regional Director Glen Geraldino said students should be aware on how the tax affects their future, as well as their responsibility.

The regional director also said that students also pay taxes every time they buy VAT-able items. He added that they can be an effective tax collection partners if they request and insist for their receipts.

BIR also urges universities to create awareness on tax among the students. BIR added that they must be role model in tax collection campaigns as well as on time remittances.

Geraldino stressed that the academe can develop the students attitude towards correct payment of taxes, including tax evasions.

BIR regional director Geraldino was guest during the lecture-forum on “Taxpayers as Catalysts of Change towards National Development” held here recently at the Central Philippine University.

Topics during the lecture include the purpose and works of the BIR, the rights and the responsibilities of tax payers. It also encouraged students to join the “Premyo sa Resibo” program as it promotes proper correct and on time filing of taxes. (PNA) LOR/AJP/LPCarnaje/vlo
