MANILA, Dec. 11 — Bureau of Immigration (BI) officer-in-charge Ronaldo Ledesma relieved on Saturday a warden and a jail guard assigned at the agency’s detention center in Bicutan, Taguig City in connection with the escape of a detained German national.

Relieved of their posts were jail warden Enrico Gecomo and jail guard Geronimo de Guzman of the BI Civil Security Unit.

Ledesma directed them to explain in 72 hours why they should not be administratively charged for the escape of Andreas Kohn, a German detainee who "disappeared" after he was escorted to the German Embassy in Makati City last Dec. 8.

Gecomo was replaced by BI Confidential Agent and retired Police Inspector Rodelio Obice who was designated acting warden pending investigation of the incident.

Initial report said Kohn was granted a pass to obtain travel documents at the German Embassy and was escorted by De Guzman who later reported that the German had disappeared while they were having snacks inside a fastfood chain in Evangelista Street, Makati City.

According to Immigration OIC Associate Commissioner Alberto Braganza, the incident is still under investigation by the BI administrative division.

Braganza said that Kohn is now the object of a manhunt by two teams of BI intelligence agents.

BI Administrative Chief Felino Quirante Jr. said charges of neglect of duty or misconduct may be filed against Gecomo and De Guzman due to the incident.

“They may also be criminally liable for charges of infidelity in the custody of prisoners,” Quirante said. (PNA) scs/FMB
