(Metro News) MMDA opens ‘Christmas lanes’ to solve traffic in EDSA

MANILA, Dec. 4 — The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) opened on Friday alternate routes for motorists using the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA). To address the expected heavy flow of traffic this holiday season.

In a meeting with various representatives of the business establishments along EDSA, MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino encouraged private motorists to use the lanes, called "Christmas lanes," especially at this time of year when traffic is heavier than usual.

The Christmas lanes were opened to facilitate the flow of traffic and decongest EDSA for the benefit of motorists and commuters.

“For their own convenience, we are asking the public to use these alternate routes. We will clear these routes of obstructions and detail traffic enforcers to assist them,” he said.

Tolentino tasked the Traffic Engineering Center to place directional signs along the routes of the Christmas lanes to guide motorists.

The MMDA is also set out to clear the roads along the routes, remove any obstruction, repair potholes and tackle other road issues that can prevent the lanes from being fully utilized.

Tolentino said the use of these routes, which were the same ones used during the construction of the EDSA Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 , was not yet maximized.
