CEBU CITY, Nov. 25 -– Newly-elected and reelected barangay officials in Cebu City are undergoing a seminar on barangay governance.
Officials from 20 barangays in the south district were the first batch scheduled for the seminar on Wednesday.
The barangay officials were given lectures in six modules by speakers to make them aware of their role before assuming office next week.
Ombudsman Visayas director Virginia Palanca Santiago talked about professional ethics, functions, benefits and sanctions of barangay officials.
The barangay officials were also briefed by Cebu City Budget Officer Nelfa Briones about barangay financial administration, particularly on source of income, budgeting, disbursement, financial records and management audit.
Commission on Audit (COA) resident auditor Eva Cabrera also explained to the barangay officials the government procurement system and the roles of COA.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama discussed the vision, mission of his administration and encouraged barangay officials to do more work, concentrate on serving their constituency and set aside politics.
”So that they will be able to serve the constituents, because if we keep on being bothered so much by politics, obviously, the one that will be prejudiced will be our constituency,” Rama said.
Another batch of barangay officials from 20 barangays in the city attended the same seminar Thursday.
Belinda Navascues of the mayor’s office said barangay officials who failed to attend the seminar Wednesday and Thursday can attend the succeeding seminars on Friday and Saturday. (PNA)
