(Metro News) ‘Martilyo Gang’ robs jewelry shop in Binondo

November 15, 2010 3:26 am

MANILA, Nov. 14 – Suspected members of the notorious “Martilyo Gang” broke in on a jewelry shop in Binondo, Manila and made off undetermined amount of jewelry and other valuables at a time when most of the people were hooked on the TV sets watching the championship fight between Rep. Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Mexican Antonio Margarito.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman Sr. Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr. said the incident was the only reported crime by all police regional offices (PROs) while the Pacquaio-Margarito fight was being aired.

”All police regional offices reported no incident except for the National Capital Region Police Office,” said Cruz, apparently referring to the incident in Manila.

Quoting reports from the Manila Police District (MPD), Cruz said the dreaded “Martilyo Gang," wearing black jackets and carrying firearms, broke in on jewelry store Gold Dust Marketing, located at Ongpin corner T. Alonzo Street in Binondo, Manila at about 11:45 a.m. Sunday.

Cruz said manhunt operations were immediately launched to track down the gang members.

Such incident was unusual whenever Pacquiao fights as the PNP usually report very petty, if not zero crime rate during Pacquiao’s previous fights. (PNA) RMA/MM
