MANILA, Nov. 14 — Malacanang has appealed to all government employees to keep Christmas parties simple as part of the austerity measures of the Aquino administration.

"Kasama ang ating Pasko sa appeal sa austerity measures. Puwede naman magdiwang ng Christmas Party ng hindi naman magarbo [We can hold Christmas parties without being extravagant. It is included in our appeal in observing austerity measures in government offices]," Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in radio interview over State-run Radyo ng Bayan on Sunday.

Earlier, President Benigno Simeon Aquino III himself cut the intelligence fund of his office by substantial amount as part of his administration's austerity measure.

Valte also said Budget Secretary Butch Abad will soon announce if there would be an additional cash gift given to civil servants because the national government is now cash-strapped.

"Secretary Abad already said na iaanunsyo soon kung ano ang magiging desisyon sa kung magkakaroon ng extra Christmas bonus dahil gipit tayo sa pondo but just the same gusto natin mabigyan ng extra ang ating employees being in government service," Valte said. (PNA)
