ILOILO CITY, Oct. 27 – All newly elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials must undergo the mandatory barangay newly elected officers orientation program (BNEO), according to Department of Interior and Local Government regional director Evelyn Trompeta.
Trompeta said the mandatory orientation program tackles responsibilities, roles and functions of barangay officials and the implications of running a local government unit.
The regional director added that they are still waiting for a directive from their National Barangay Operations Office (NBOO) regarding the conduct of the training although in previous elections they adopted a new methodology dubbed as Radio-Aral.
Through the Radio-Aral, elected local officials can just stay in their homes and listen to the modules being discussed over the radio.
They are, however, obliged to listen to discussions, prepare questions and plans and share them with other local officials in one agreed setting.
The newly-elected SK officials on the other hand will undergo Sangguniang Kabataan Organizational, Leadership and Reorientation-Basic Orientation Seminar (ISKOLaR-BOS), which is a form a leadership training.
Meanwhile, Trompeta hoped that by first week of November or before the 15th of the said month they can already secure a complete list of winning barangay and SK candidates. (PNA)
