MANILA, Sept. 28 — Department of Health Secretary Enrique T. Ona recently issued a clarification that two milk products -Alactagrow Bibo Trio Milk Supplement and Sustagen Junior Milk Drink Powder manufactured by Mead Johnson Nutrition (MJN) Philippines- are safe to use.

Earlier, the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued product recall orders for the two products due to their non-compliance to the FDA’s newly-adopted standard fat content levels.

MJN Corporate Affairs Manager Janryll Fernandez maintained that Alactagrow and Sustagen Junior were compliant as of the time they were manufactured and that labels of these products are accurate.

Fernandez stressed that the 5.9g/100g powder fat content level indicated on the Sustagen Junior label is equivalent to 1.5g/100 calories and that the 5.1g/100g powder fat content level on the Alactagrow label is equivalent to 1.34g/100 calories.

MJN announced earlier it had already reformulated Alactagrow and that the products are now on their way to the store shelves.

MJN is proceeding with the recall of the two milk products in compliance with the FDA’s order dated September 22, 2010 which also stated that the products are safe and fit for human consumption. (PNA)
