ILOILO CITY, Sept 23 – This city will play host to the Board of Governors meeting of various international donors of the Community-led Infrastructure Finance Facility (CLIFF), an international program that supports the building of capacities of urban poor communities.

Sonia Cadornigara, regional coordinator of the Homeless People’s Federation of the Philippines Inc. (HPFPI), which implements the CLIFF initiative, said that they were now making the necessary preparations for the meeting slated in February next year.

CLIFF is being funded by the United Kingdom for International Development (DFID) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), which is channeled through the Cities Alliance and managed by the Homeless People’s Federation of the Philippines Inc. (HPFPI).

Together with representatives from DFID and SIDA, also expected are delegations from Cities Alliance and the Slum Dwellers International, which is the network of the HPFPI.

Meantime, Cadornigara said that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation might visit the housing projects undertaken by the Iloilo City Urban Poor Network within the year.

She said that the Gates Foundation had also extended support to the urban poor through a separate housing project.

The foundation, she said, has donated US $ 150, 000 for the construction of a housing project and its other components such as the survey, setting up of institutions of community architects and disaster response.

At present there is an on-going construction of a shelter project in Mandaue City in Cebu in a 9.2- hectare lot donated by the city government there.

Some 40 houses are now being built out of the 315 housing units. (PNA) RMA/ajp/PGLena
