Drug suspects outwit PDEA raiding team

ILOILO CITY, Sept. 23 – Suspected drug addicts and their suppliers using a house as a drug den in Barangay Bolilao in Mandurriao district of this city eluded arrest by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) led by Region 6 Director Paul Ledesma Wednesday, ostensibly on a tip off by a lookout working for drug lords.

While the raiding team braced for an assault of the drug den, Ledesma said he walked toward a man standing nearby to ask some questions. But to Ledesma's surprise, the man ran and vanished in a maze of houses.

Ledesma said his team gave chase and forced their way into the house, but found it empty of drug suspects. However, drug paraphernalia littered the place, bolstering suspicion that a pot session was going on prior to the arrival of the PDEA operatives. No arrests were made.

Ledesma, who admitted that illegal drug transactions continued to flourish in Barangay Bakhaw, said he had placed five houses in the same area under surveillance.(PNA) RMA/ AJP/ELTorrecampo
