MANILA, Sept. 14 – President Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III will be ringing the bell at the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) during the opening of trading hours Tuesday.

The visit of the Chief Executive is meant to commemorate the massive trading gains made by the PSE during the past few weeks.

President Aquino's entourage is expected to arrive at the PSE main office in Tektite Towers, Ortigas between 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

As this developed, the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) surged to a new historic high last Monday after it closed at 3,972.60, extending its winning streak for the ninth day.

The PSEi finished up by 70.04 points or 1.79 percent. Year-to-date, the index gained 919.92 points or 30.13 percent.

Value turnover Monday reached P8.05 billion.

“The PSEi continued to hit new highs on the back of investor confidence in the Philippines. We hope this trend continues for the long-term as the Exchange undertakes reforms that will further develop the stock market,” PSE president and chief executive officer Val Antonio B. Suarez said.

The PSE continues to undertake several initiatives to broaden the market’s breadth and depth, including the introduction of new investment products and the successful roll-out of a New Trading System last July.

The PSE is the country's only stock exchange with 250 listed firms and 132 active trading participants. (PNA)
