MANILA, Sept. 12 – The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) will present this week to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) its initial assessment on the first automated nationwide elections last May 10.

Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento said the initial report is expected to be discussed during their en banc on Tuesday.

“IFES will be submitting its report, initially, on September 14. Pupunta po sila sa Comelec for their initial post-election assessment,” he said.

The report is expected to be presented by IFES technology expert Michael Yard.

The Comelec official said that the initial report may contain their assessment on voters’ registration and post-election assessment, among others.

It would be recalled that the Comelec tapped the international group to conduct a thorough audit of the May 10 electoral exercises.

Sarmiento said that the result of the evaluation will be used to improve the process when the automated election system is again used in the succeeding polls.

He added the poll body is confident that the group will give a positive report on the preparations and the holding of the automated national and local polls four months ago.

“I am confident that they’ll give a positive assessment although, of course, there were glitches,” he said. (PNA)
