BAUANG, La Union, Sept. 12 — Two persons, including a mini-bus driver, died on the spot while nine others were injured in an accident involving three vehicles and a bicycle along the national highway in Barangay Santiago Norte, Bauang, La Union last Saturday.

Chief Inspector Artemio Infante, Chief of Police of Bauang, identified the dead as Rosalina Nones, passenger of a southbound mini-bus and a resident of Barangay Sta. Cecilia, Aringay, La Union; and Richard Sison, 29, driver of the mini-bus Mama Flor Express Busline, of Barangay San Agustin, Agoo, La Union.

Infante identified the injured as Alfredo Carbonel Jr., 27, of Barangay Santiago Norte, Caba, La Union; Maricel Cagalawan, 28, of Barangay Baraoas Sur, Naguilian, La Union; Katrina Padilla, 23, of San Vicente, Agoo; Liza Padilla, 52, of Barangay Santiago Norte, Bauang; Jacklyn Mapanta, 16, of Barangay Sta. Rita East, Aringay; Lucresia Mabanta, 52, of Barangay Santiago Norte, Bauang; and Rodolfo Manuel, 23, of Sagayad, Relocation, San Fernando City, La Union, all passengers of the mini-bus; Richard Cabanban, 24, passenger of an L300 van, of Bacnotan, La Union; and Rodolfo Andallo, 30, driver of the car, of Barangay San Vicente, Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.

All the injured were treated at a local hospital.

Initial investigation disclosed that the Mama Flor Express Busline with plate No. AEM-123 driven by Sison was moving towards the south direction at the national highway when a car with plate No. AAE–973 driven by Andallo suddenly invaded the right lane that resulted into a collision.

Due to the strong impact, the car swerved westward while the bus, continuously moving, hit the L300 van driven by Reynaldo Orejodos, 51, a resident of Barangay Cabaroan, Bacnotan, La Union.

The van suddenly stopped after it accidentally hit a bike rider, Lormie Collado, 36, of Barangay Santiago, Bauang, La Union.

Both the drivers of the car and the van were reportedly safe.

Police said that a case of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, injury and damage to property is being prepared to be filed against Andallo, the car driver.

Police said they believed it was the car that caused the accident when it reportedly invaded the path of the mini-bus. (PNA) scs/lvm/freddie g. lazaro/rma
