MANILA, Sept 8 —- President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III will face on Thursday the country's top news anchors in a "no-holds-barred" interview at the Malacanang Palace on Thursday. The interview will center on the Aug. 23 Manila hostage incident.
Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda told Malacanang reporters on Wednesday that the media panel will be composed of Mike Enriquez or Mel Tiangco of GMA 7, Ted Failon of ABS-CBN Channel 2 and Paolo Bediones of ABC 5.
Lacierda pointed out that singular topic in the President’s first no-holds-barred media interview is expected to focus on the hostage incident and its subsequent fallout. It will be an hour and half interview slated to be held at the President’s studio in Malacanang between 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Eight Hong Kong tourists died in the August 23 hostage incident while the hostage-taker dismissed Senior Inspector Rolando Mendoza was killed during police assault after the almost 11 hour hostage drama in front of the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta Park, Manila.
President Aquino immediately formed an inter-agency investigation panel—Incident Investigation and Review Committee to look into the incident.
The IIRC is chaired by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and co-chaired by Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo.
Aquino has already taken responsibility for the hostage incident.(PNP).(PNA)
