MANILA, Sept. 3 — In view of the ongoing deliberations of the proposed 2011 national budget submitted by Malacanang to Congress, a party-list lawmaker has called on all political parties and sector organizations to unite behind President Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III’s socio-economic agenda for "meaningful change."

In a proposed House Resolution no. 146 of Kasangga party-list Rep. Teodoro Haresco, he cited President Aquino’s first state of the nation address (SONA), in which he offered "hope to the people for better governance, more public services, increased investments in partnership with the private sector and improved transparency in government transactions."

Haresco laid stress on the President’s "support for a strong public-private partnership as a creative approach to source fresh funds to address our long standing problems in education, infrastructure, agriculture, health, defense and other important national concerns."

He noted in his proposed House Resolution that the President’s economic agenda would provide more jobs and services to the Filipino people.

He also pointed to the President’s program to expand PhilHealth coverage and engage the active participation of local government units in nation-building.

Haresco also cited the President’s agenda to cut red tape in government transactions which would facilitate economic and business activities.

He said there was a need "for national unity regardless of political party, affiliation and sectoral organization to work together for meaningful change and push forward the socio-economic agenda of the President."

Quoting a recent poll which shows that President Aquino has an 85 percent public trust rating, Haresco called on his colleagues at the Lower Chamber to pass a resolution expressing "support for the President’s social and economic agenda and call for transparency and government." (PNA)
