MANILA, Sept. 1 — Mayor Alfredo S. Lim said on Wednesday he will attend the hearing of the Incident Investigation and Review Committee (IIRC) at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with the Aug. 23 hostage-taking drama near the Quirino Grandstand in Manila's Rizal Park.

Lim was among the nine personalities invited by the IIRC chaired by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima for clarificatory questioning.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo is the IIRC's vice chairman.

Mayor Lim defended Vice Mayor Isko Moreno amid reports that he was being blamed for the incident.

“He should not be blamed in any way, since he has gone out of his way to help and had all the good intentions in mind,” Lim said.

He said he decided to attend the hearing on Friday at the DOJ so he can answer baseless comments imputed against him and others.

“It's so sad; there are a lot of persons who were not present at that time who issued baseless comments,” the mayor said. (PNA) scs/JES
