Zambo holds candle lighting, prayer memorial for Quirino hostage victims

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Aug 29 — Zamboanguenos on Friday night lighted candles and offered prayers for the victims of Monday’s hostage taking incident at the Quirino grandstand in Manila in ceremonies held at the Rotary Circle in Gov. Camins.

Organized by the Tzu Tzi Zamboanga Foundation, six Rotary Clubs of Zamboanga and the People Power Volunteer Center-Zamboanga, the prayer memorial was attended by Mayor Celso Lobregat, Cong. Beng Climaco, Tourism Secretary Albert Lim and his undersecretary Simeon Marfori, including officers and members of the Zamboanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by Pocholo Rufo Soliven and participants in the 6th Zampen Business Conference.

Zamboanga Archbishop Romulo Valles led in the prayer that was preceded by the flower offering rite led by Mayor Lobregat and Sec. Lim.

Names of the eight Hongkong nationals who were killed in the hostage crisis were printed in a tarpaulin that was posted at the center of the Rotary Circle. The names include Tse Ting Chunn Masa, Leung Doris Chung See, Leung Song Yi Jessie, Leung Ken Kam Wing, Fu Cheuk Yan, Yeung Yee Wa, Yeung Yee Kam and Wong Tze Lam.

Dr. Anton Lim, Tzu Tzi Zamboanga group leader said Friday’s candle lighting and prayer memorial for the Quirino hostage victims was a gesture of solidarity with the families of the victims and the Hongkong government.

He said the activity was meant to express mutual grief over the deaths of the Hongkong tourists, mourn the tragic circumstances in which they died as well as to show sympathy with the victims’ families.

Lim said people representing different faiths attended the activity. He stressed it was to display solidarity with the people of Hongkong and most especially the victims’ relatives who are going through difficulties following the tragic death of their kin, he asserted. (PNA) V3/FMS/jsd
