4 passengers die, 38 others injured as bus fell into creek in Quezon province

MANILA, Aug. 29 –- A passenger bus fell into a creek in Quezon province Sunday morning, resulting in the death of four passengers while 38 other people, including the driver, were injured.

Quoting reports reaching the Philippine National Police’s National Operations Center (NOC), PNP spokesman Sr. Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr. said government and authorities are presently conducting retrieval operations in Barangay Silangang Malicboy, Pagiblao town where the accident happened.

Cruz said a CUL passenger bus, driven by Oscar Pedrigosa, with licensed plate number TWV-912 was traversing the New Diversion Road along Sitio Amao at around 2:30 a.m. when it lost its brake.

”While traversing the said place bound for Cubao, Quezon City, allegedly lost its brake and fell into a creek,” said Cruz, quoting initial reports.

As a result, Cruz said four passengers were declared dead on the spot while 38 others, including Pedrigosa, were injured and are now being treated in an undisclosed hospital.

However, the identities of the victims are now yet available as of press time.

Further investigations will be conducted to determine what caused the accident and establish the culpability of the driver or the bus operator. (PNA)
