Vessel ran aground off Northern Mindanao, all 67 passengers, crewmembers, safe

MANILA, Aug. 25 — A passenger-cargo vessel with 67 passengers and crewmembers ran aground off Northern Mindanao on Wednesday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

However, reports reaching PCG headquarters in Manila said all the passengers and crewmembers are safe when MV San Jose de Tagbilaran, a passenger/cargo vessel ran aground at vicinity waters 0.4 Nautical Miles off Palauan pier at 12:45 a.m.

According to the report, the said vessel came from Cebu and was battered by strong winds with reduced visibility and sudden squall which caused the said vessel to run aground while approaching the pier.

Later, the vessel was able to maneuver safely towards the port of Palauan.

The Coast Guard advised the master of the said vessel to file a marine protest immediately on the incident. Likewise, the Coast Guard will request fom MARINA to attest the sea worthiness of the vessel. (PNA) DCT/JES
