MANILA, Aug. 25 – The Philippine Senate adopted on Wednesday a resolution, congratulating Filipina beauty queen Maria Venus Bayonito Raj for making it to the top five and eventually being named 4th runner-up of the 2010 Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Introduced by Senator Lito Lapid and unanimously approved by all senators present, the Senate Resolution No. 140 commended the 22-year-old Raj for making the country proud and showing the world “the spirit of Filipino beauty, excellence and grace."

”This honor brought by our Filipino beauty queen deserves to be commended for the pride and recognition she brought to our country,” the resolution stated.

The 5'9" tall beauty from Camarines Sur is the first Filipina to earn placing in the prestigious beauty pageant since Miriam Quiambao bagged first runner-up in 1999.

The Philippines has two title holders; Gloria Diaz and Margarita Moran, who were crowned Ms. Universe in 1969 and 1973, respectively.

Observers said the blooming Bicolana could have earned higher placing and could have even won the title if not of her answer in the final question-and-answer portion.

Actor William Baldwin asked her to name one biggest mistake in her life and what did she do to make it right.

Venus answered that she had made no “major, major” mistake during her “22 years of existence.”

In a television interview, Raj admitted that she was really nervous since she did not expect to reach the final five of the world’s most prestigious beauty contest.

”I’m really nervous every time I climbed on the stage,” she said.

The Filipina beauty also believed that she never committed a mistake, saying she would give the same answer if asked the same question again.

”I think it’s not a mistake, never ever… I’m a very positive person. Everything that happened to me, I take it as a challenge, something that would become positive in the end despite the negative things that happened to you,” Raj said.

As the Senate adopted the resolution, Senator Serge Osmena III said in jest that he would vote in favor of the resolution if the Miss Universe fourth runner-up would agree to visit the Senate.

Presiding officer, Senate President Pro-Tempore Jinggoy Estrada responded “immediately after her return” while giving his big smile in obvious celebration of Raj’s victory.

Raj is scheduled to arrive in Manila on Thursday when there is no Senate session. (PNA)
