Four killed, passenger bus set ablaze by armed men in Lanao del Norte

MANILA, August 26 –- Still unidentified armed men killed two policemen and two civilians after flagging down a passenger bus which was subsequently set ablaze in Lanao del Norte province early morning on Thursday, a ranking police official said.

Quoting reports reaching the National Operations Center (NOC) in Camp Crame, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman Senior Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr. identified the two policemen killed in the incident as PO3 Rosalito Obatay and PO3 Jovito Cabigas.

Cruz said the two lawmen were detailed as marshals of an RTMI bus with body number 1516 which was intercepted by thr suspects along the national highway in Barangay Balili in Kapatagan town where the perpetrators set up a decoy checkpoint at around 1:20 a.m.

The perpetrators, according to Cruz, immediately shot dead the two policemen along with the bus driver and conductor, whose identities were not immediately available.

The suspects went on to burn down the passenger bus.

It was not known, however, if there were passengers during the incident.

Cruz said that police investigators are still establishing the motive behind the attack. (PNA) V3/MM
