Army soldier dies in Isabela road mishap

NARVACAN, Ilocos Sur, Aug. 25 — An army soldier died when his motorcycle collided with a van along the national highway in Barangay Alibagu, Ilagan, Isabela Tuesday, a report reaching the Philippine Army headquarters here stated.

Police identified the victim as Private First Class Anthony Atiliena, a soldier assigned at the headquarters of the Army’s 5th Infantry Division based in Camp Melchor dela Cruz, Upi, Gamu, Isabela.

Investigation showed that the victim was on his way to report for duty at the Army headquarters in Gamu when his Honda XRM motorcycle with plate No. PA 6669 collided with a Delica van.

Due to the strong impact, the victim was thrown off, sustaining serious body injuries and was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.

Witnesses said the Delica van sped away without its driver giving assistance to the victim. Nobody was able to jot down its license plate.

Probers said they are conducting follow–up investigation into the accident but admitted they find difficulty tracing down the hit-and-run vehicle. (PNA)
