PNP-Marikina launches Facebook account

MANILA, Aug. 24 — The Philippine National Police (PNP)-Marikina has introduced its latest innovation on how to get leads and feedback such as reports, inquiries, suggestions and comments from the city residents.

PNP-Marikina, headed by police chief Romeo Magsalos, recently launched their official Facebook account which mainly aims to receive feedback from the public through the Internet.

“We want to make our services more available, through our Facebook account, and people can easily reach us,” he said.

The Facebook account will be monitored from time to time to make sure that people’s concerns will be responded to immediately.

“Through this sensible step, we hope to boost public vigilance and increase their participation in reporting incidents and would-be criminals who act suspiciously through the use of the Internet,” Magsalos added.

Aside from that, any form of irregularities among police officers is also welcome in the said mechanism.

“We want to make sure that our police force is rendering the best quality of public service. Through the public’s report in the Facebook account, we can monitor those who are not dutifully performing their jobs,” said Magsalos.

Marikina City Mayor Del de Guzman lauded the said innovation. “Most people nowadays use social networking sites. By penetrating these, we can better serve our people, and for me it’s timely and an effective way of communicating with them.”

Magsalos likewise acknowledged the critical role of the public in making the city safer.

He believes that by equipping the public with the pertinent knowledge and better ways on how to report their concerns, it can make a big difference in curbing any untoward incidents.”
