House eyes completion of committee chairmanships within the week

MANILA, Aug. 3 — The House of Representatives on Tuesday started filling up important committees.

Upon motion of House Majority Leader and Mandaluyong Rep. Neptali Gonzales II, the following members were elected:

To the Committee on Accounts, for the majority: Reps. Florencio Noel, Niel Tupas Jr., Robert Raymund Estrella, Antonio Lagdameo, Oscar Malapitan, Jeci Lapus, Florencio Miraflores, Eleandro Jesus Madrona, Pangalian Balindong, Aurora Cerilles, Elpidio Barzaga, Anna York Bondoc, Ma. Rachel Arenas, Herminia Roman, Juan Ponce Enrile Jr., Rodolfo Antonino, Justin Marc Chipeco, Cesar Jalosjos, Guillermo Romarate Jr., Pryde Henry Teves, Narciso Bravo Jr., Yevgeny Vicente Emano, Thelma Almario, Sergio Apostol, Edgar San Luis, Roger Mercado, Eduardo Gullas, Ronald Cosalan, Giorgidi Aggabao, Emil Ong, Salvio Fortuno, Daisy Fuentes, Renato Unico, Rosenda Ann Ocampo, Alfredo Maranon, Rene Relampagos, Jesus Sacdalan, Czarina Umali, Jose Carlos Cari, Maximo Dalog, Teodoro Baguilat Jr., and Antonio Alvarez.

As for the Committee on Agriculture and Food, the following were elected, for the majority: Reps. For the Committee on Agrarian Reform, the following were elected for the majority: Reps. Pryde Henry Teves, Kaka Bag-Ao, Agapito Guanlao, Florencio Flores, Ma. Rachel Arenas, Angelica Amante-Matba, Eleanor Begtang, Cresente Paez, Paolo Everardo Javier, Arturo Robes, Jim Hataman-Saliman, Rodolfo Valencia, Franklin Bautista, Fernando Gonzales, Ben Evardone, Florencio Garay, Rogelio Espina, Salvador Escudero, Isidro Rodriguez, Jesus Emmanuel Paras, Napoleon Dy, Josefina Joson, Go Arnulfo, Maria Valentina Plaza, Tupay Loong, Rodante Marcoleta, Eulogio Magsaysay, Rodel Batocabe, Kho Antonio, Jeci Lapus, Anna York Bondoc, Acmad Tomawis, and Rafael Mariano.

For the minority: Reps. Ignacio Arroyo, Elmer Panotes, Fatima Aliah Dimaporo, Jesus Celeste, and Reena Obillo.

Additional members for the House Committee on Rules were also elected — Reps. Daisy Fuentes, Jorge John Banal, Romero Federico Quimbo, Rosenda Ann Ocampo, Mylene Garcia-Albano, Francisco Emmanuel Ortega, Karlo Alexei Nograles, Arthur Defensor Jr., Jose Benjamin Benaldo, Lucy Gomez and Gina De Venecia.

Reps. Marc Douglas Cagas IV, Philip Pichay, Rodolfo Albano, Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, and Aurelio Gonzales Jr. were also elected as additional members for the minority in the Rules committee.

Early on, Rep. Neptali Gonzales was elected as majority leader with Rep. Janet Garin as senior deputy majority leader; while Reps. Roman Romulo, Rodolfo Farinas, Mar-Len Abigail Binay and Magtanggol Gunigundo as deputy majority leaders.

On the other hand, Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman was elected as minority leader with Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez as senior minority leader; and Reps. Augusto Syjuco, Carlos Padilla, and Amelita Villarosa as deputy minority leaders.

Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas Jr. was also elected as chairman of the House Committee on Justice.

Six House Deputy Speakers were earlier elected upon the opening of the 15th Congress, they are Reps. Raul Daza, Lorenzo "Erin" Tanada, Pablo Garcia, Arnulfo Fuentebella, Crispin Remulla and Maria Isabella Climaco.

Memberships to other committees are expected to be finalized and concurred to by the plenary within the week. (PNA)
